Though the UK is recognised as the 33rd safest country, there are certain counties, towns and cities that are associated with high crime rates – as is the case with every country. Looking at data from the Office of National Statistics (the year ending September 2018) we can reveal the 5 most dangerous places in England and Wales.
West Yorkshire is made up of five metropolitan boroughs: Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. With a population of 2,307,000 it is the fourth most populated county. Police recorded a total of 284,271 crimes here, giving it a rating of 123.2 per 1,000 people. Greater Manchester follows closely with
338,127 crimes among its population of 2,798,800. Northumbria is ranked 3rd but having looked deeper into these stats, we can see that Northumbria Police recorded a total of 159,904 crimes, comprising 13,283 violence against the person crimes – making it one of the most dangerous places to live and work. Cleveland and Kent not too far behind, but this list shows just some of the places that are considered as most dangerous in the UK. Whether these statistics are surprising or not, it shows just how important police data can be in terms of providing an overview of crime in various locations, and more organisations are now looking to utilise intelligence from the police to rank their locations or estates in terms of risk.
Organisational risk profiling is the process of identifying threats to an organisation. The goal is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the risks by assigning numerical values to variables, signifying different types of threats and the dangers posed. For large enterprises with multiple locations, it’s not only essential to discover the biggest risks to the company at large, but to narrow down on each location, analysing the likelihood of occurrence, low severity risks, high severity risks, singular risk and everything in between.
